Impostor Syndrome

Definition:

You feel like you don’t truly belong in your role or place in life and fear that others will eventually “find out” you’re a fraud.

What to Do:

You need to identify what’s causing your impostor syndrome.

Then practice collecting and accepting evidence that you belong in your role or place in life.

And use healthy coping strategies whenever your impostor syndrome comes up.

Why:

When you know the cause of your impostor syndrome, you get a better idea of what you need to focus on when practicing and how to reduce your exposure to the things that trigger it.

Impostor syndrome is a normal human experience.

But some people are better at responding to it than others.

There are many reasons for this, one of them being narcissistic abuse.

If you’ve experienced it, you may struggle with impostor syndrome more than someone who hasn’t.

But don’t think of it as something that’s “wrong” with you, because it isn’t.

It’s a skill you get to build, not a flaw you have to carry.

And skills are something anyone can build with practice.

Your impostor syndrome isn’t going to disappear overnight.

So it’s important to use healthy coping strategies when it comes up.

That way you can move through it instead of getting stuck in it.
