Feeling On Edge When Good Things Happen
Purpose:
To help you take a step toward feeling safe and secure in good moments.
Instructions:
The next time you feel on edge because something good is happening, answer the following:
1. What is happening right now?
Example: I just found out I’m being considered for a new position at work.
2. How am I feeling?
Example: I want to feel excited, but instead I feel like something bad is about to happen.
3. Where have I felt this before?
Can you trace this feeling back to experiences with a parent, sibling, or extended family?
Final Thoughts:
This exercise isn’t designed to stop you from feeling on edge.
The goal is to help you begin to understand where that feeling comes from.
Because you can’t change what you can’t see.
So the first step to feeling safe and secure in good moments is identifying where that “on edge” feeling is coming from.
Note:
We kept the examples short to save space.
But please feel free to write as much as you’re comfortable with.
In our opinion, the more detail, the better.
