Boundaries

Definition:

You have a hard time communicating and/or maintaining your limits.

What to Do:

1.) You need to identify the reason you struggle with setting boundaries.

2.) You need to practice setting boundaries in low-risk situations and slowly work your way up.

3.) You need to follow through even when it feels uncomfortable or wrong.

Why:

When you know the cause of your difficulty setting boundaries, you get a better idea of what you need to focus on when practicing and how to reduce your exposure to the things that trigger it.

Some people are better at setting boundaries than others.

There are many reasons for this, one of them being narcissistic abuse.

If you’ve experienced it, you may struggle with setting boundaries more than someone who hasn’t.

But don’t think of it as something that’s “wrong” with you, because it isn’t.

It’s a skill you get to build, not a flaw you have to carry.

And skills are something anyone can build with practice.

Your difficulty with setting boundaries isn’t going to disappear overnight.

So it’s important to use healthy coping strategies when it comes up.

That way you can move through it instead of getting stuck in it.
