The History Log
Step 1:
Take out a piece of paper or open a note on your device and title it History Log.
Step 2:
Write down everything you’ve said or done to try to improve the relationship.
Step 3:
Write down how they responded.
Step 4:
From now on, every time you try to improve the relationship, add it to this log.
Step 5:
When you start hoping things will change, read through the list and ask: “What does this history tell me to expect going forward?”
Step 6:
Identify one thing you can do to adjust how you think, speak, or act accordingly.
